Our Brew Team are the heart of our beer production, responsible for crafting beers on our new, 40bbl 4-stage ABE kit. As Technical Brewer, you will oversee the brewing process, taking responsibility for raw materials, operatives and technical staff, as well as maintaining a safe and efficient Brew House. It’s brewing on a big scale.


Work with the Head Brewer, and the rest of the brew team to ensure all brewing and packaging is carried out according to specification, quality standards and in a timely manner to meet the production schedule
Take responsibility for the purchase of all raw materials, hops, malt, yeast and chemicals, ensuring they meet the required quality standards and are delivered and stored in a secure environment
Monitor fermentation and check temperatures/quality of samples, reporting any out of specification products to the Head Brewer
Maintain accurate stocks, production timings, parameters and quality checks
Work with the laboratory technician to carry out quality checks on products and yeast, whilst running tests to improve product consistency
Ensure that all packaged products conform to quality and legal standards
To always be striving to improve both our products and operations
Liaise with the Head Brewer to ensure sufficient stock for scheduled brews
Work with Head Brewer on new recipes for seasonal and speciality beers, in line with our brand and sales aspirations
Ensure you work within the guidelines set out in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring suggestions for change are communicated to the Head Brewer, and that you are aware of any revisions or updates when these are made
Work with the wider production team to ensure contract brews are delivered to the required specification of the customer
Maintain a clean brewhouse, adhering to cleaning schedules, quality and safety standards
Remain up-to-date with industry developments
Support the Head Brewer and wider team in the brewery’s continuing expansion and development project
Understand the reporting system in place, and action any cases of low stocks, breakages or hazards; near-misses should be avoided, but by reporting a near-miss the whole team can learn from the mistake
Keep all records, paperwork and tasting samples up-to-date and organised in a sensible system which allows ease of reference for other members of the wider brewery team
Be a brand ambassador for Hop Stuff Brewery; be proud of who you work for, and represent the company appropriately when at work, or events
Complete any reasonable request asked of you by the Head Brewer or another senior member of the Hop Stuff Management team


Science degree or similar level brewing qualification is essential
A minimum of 3 years’ industry experience, with at least 1 year in a similar role (we will consider applicants at a stage of development ready for this position)
A familiarity with the technical aspects of brewing and supporting scientific understanding is essential for this role
Experience in people management; you will be assisting the Head Brewer in the management and development of the production team, as well as motivating and leading your team
Good decision making and analytical skills, with good business awareness
Excellent written & verbal communication and attention to detail
Time management skills with the ability to plan ahead
Interpersonal and team working skills, with an understanding of the skills required when working within a small team
The ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks with little supervision
Good IT skills – the role requires daily use of MS Office; an understanding of SAP One will be an advantage
Professional personality and taking pride in your work
Sociable manner; a lot of this role requires working closely with the rest of the team, so an ability to build relationships quickly is essential
Flexible; some days will require early starts or late finishes, and there is weekend work involved too (we manage this on a rota basis)

£25,000 - £30,000pa basic salary, dependant on experience
